Paranormal Box Office Activity

The third Paranormal Activity movie came out last Friday, and reeled in a massive 54 million dollars. A 35 percent increase from the previous movie. This is the largest and biggest box office hit ever in the month of October. Since this movie is so low budget, the gross income will be ridiculously high.

I've only seen the first Paranormal Activity and that movie itself is pretty creepy, but from what i heard is that the second one is scarier than the first. And now, critics say the third movie is freakier than the previous movies and that it will stay with you for a while.

According to Mark Olsen from the New York Times, this movie has a "newfound wit and invention." And he goes onto say that this movie is not only scarier than the first two movies, but that it is also just a better made movie with a different kind of scary, not just the normal, cliche horror film.

From what I have heard so far, I want to go see this. It's scary, Halloween is coming up, it sounds like a good movie, so it all adds up to a movie i should go see.

2011 Austin Film Festival

The yearly Austin Film Festival is occurring this week from the 20-27.  There are going to be around 300 different films being shown this week so you’re sure to find favorites.  Some of the special presentations are Toy Story, Edward Scissorhands and Bones, these will be followed by Q&A by some of the writers.  Other categories are family films, shorts and Texas independents.  There is a Documentary Feature Competition and a Narrative Feature Competition as well.  Johnny Depp has even come to this year’s Film Festival.

Even though it’s a little late to be buying you can buy a $50 Film Pass to enjoy priority entry into films, inside access to screenwriters and filmmakers.  Buying the pass also allows entry to late-night parties to meet some actors.  There is also the Lone Star Badge for $110 for even more special events.  There are a lot of other packages aside from these two if you’re looking for something specific.  On the other hand, if you’re only going to see a few movies, tickets are available at the door.  Seats are by a first come, first served basis.

Is "Pretty Little Liars" Worth Our Time?

"Pretty Little Liars" is a popular series that many seem to enjoy. Several people enjoy the suspense and the cliff hanging put at the end of each episode. I watched about three of the episodes and I personally didn't get caught up with the show.
The show was boring and repetitive. I don't think there is any point to dragging along the plot in "Pretty Little Liars" just to get more episodes. In most of the episodes, there are threats, mysterious texts from a person named "A," and constantly remenbering of a friend named Allison. Allison's friends don't seem to get over her death and most of the drama that happens in each episode is so unrealistic.
The special Halloween episode was gory and creepy as usual. It was a flashback to the time when Allison was still alive. The viewers get to see how mean Allison of a queen bee she was.  The show started off with one of the twins stabbing the other twin after fighting over a doll. Really? How terrible it is to show to people that dolls matter more than family! Then a voodoo doll that had its heart pierced was delivered to Allison in the middle of the episode. I don't like how the plot is full of revenge and hatred. There isn't much good things to filter out of that show. First, the four friends of Allison cling to her just to look popular. Second, the death threats and text messages are getting old. Third, it's shouldn't take so many episodes to reveal who killed Allison.

Hit or Miss: 'The Dark Knight Rises'

With awesome stunts, amazing actors, crazy makeup, and stunning visuals; 'The Dark Knight' was pure amazingness. I have high hopes for the new and, yes, final chapter of the batman movies. So 'The Dark Knight Rises' will be a hit.

My favorite part in the previous movie was the first scene. In this scene, a  bus runs into the side of a bank and the makeup of the clowns trying to rob it look strikingly murderous. You instantly get a taste at the Joker's trickery, played by the amazing Heath Ledger, just by his laugh. And talk about the visuals! When my family bought a Blueray, we made sure that this was the first movie we saw. The cinematographers did an outstanding job keeping up the black consistency on set. This movie was just spot on in everything film related. That is why I have high hopes for 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

I am also looking forward to Anne Hathaway playing Catwoman in this movie, but I am not sure how she will fit. Anne Hathaway commonly plays a quirky girl in many movies, so I wonder how she will do going outside of her normal box, but I have hopes for her to do well. But why Catwoman? Who knows. All I know is that this movie has really good potential.
