Gattaca

As most of you probably know from watching Gattaca in science class Gattaca is about the not too distant future where children are born with genetic engineering so they have “perfect genes.”  People without such genes are discriminated against and stuck in the lower ladders of society.  Vincent is one such person that was born with inferior genes, having an estimated life expectancy of 30.2 years and a high risk of heart disease.  Because of this, in order to fulfill his dream job of becoming an astronaut, he must assume the identity Jerome Morrow.

I won’t spoil the ending for those of you that haven’t seen it yet but it is a very interesting movie.    The only problem that I have with it is that there’s the idea of if everyone’s perfect then nobody is.  So if everyone had their genes modified they should all be on the same level, excluding those who were born without the modifications.  It doesn’t seem this way in the movie, this might be due to the “best genes” of the parents though.
